The vehicle you travel in shapes your safari. Our itineraries in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda use 4x4 Land Cruisers — the standard safari vehicle across East Africa's parks.
Built for the parks
Park tracks can be rough, rutted or muddy, especially in the rains. A Land Cruiser's four-wheel drive and high clearance let your guide reach sightings and keep to the plan when conditions change, and they handle long road transfers between parks comfortably.
Viewing and photography
The Land Cruisers we use have pop-up roofs, so you can stand for a clear, all-round view while the vehicle is stopped, and the raised roof gives shade during long sightings.
Private or group joining
- Private safaris: the vehicle and guide are yours, with flexible start times and as long as you like at each sighting.
- Group-joining safaris: you share the vehicle with other travellers on the same route, which keeps the cost per person down.
- Families and photographers usually prefer a private vehicle for space and flexibility.
What to bring on board
- A soft-sided bag — luggage space is limited, especially on longer group trips.
- A warm layer for early starts with the roof up.
- Binoculars, a camera and a scarf or buff against dust in the dry season.
Every package page lists the transport included. Tell us about your group when you enquire and we will confirm the vehicle arrangement for your dates.
