Lions resting in the branches of a fig tree

Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park stretches between Lakes George and Edward in western Uganda. Game drives on the Kasenyi plains, boat trips on the Kazinga Channel and the remote Ishasha sector make it Uganda's classic savannah park.

The Kazinga Channel

A boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake George and Lake Edward, brings close views of hippos, buffalo and elephants at the water's edge, along with large numbers of water birds.

Kasenyi and Ishasha

The Kasenyi plains in the north are the park's main game-drive area, with Uganda kob, buffalo and lions. In the remote southern Ishasha sector, lions are known for resting in fig trees, and this sector is often crossed on the way to Bwindi.

Crater lakes and the equator

The park is crossed by the equator and dotted with old volcanic craters, some holding lakes, which make for scenic drives between the game areas.
