A safari can be an unforgettable family trip. A few choices make a big difference to how much everyone enjoys it.
Keep driving days manageable
Long transfers are the hardest part for children. Routes such as the Maasai Mara with Lake Naivasha or Lake Nakuru keep drives shorter, and staying two nights at each stop avoids packing up every morning.
Consider a private vehicle
With your own vehicle and guide you can stop when needed, return early from a game drive, and spend as long as you like with animals your children love.
Age limits
- Gorilla trekking in Uganda: minimum age 15 (Uganda Wildlife Authority).
- Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda: minimum age 12.
- Some lodges and walking or balloon activities also set minimum ages — we check when quoting.
Health
Speak to a travel health professional about vaccinations and malaria prevention suitable for your children's ages.
Our 10 Days Family-Friendly Kenya & Tanzania Safari is designed around these principles, and any itinerary can be adapted for a family.
