Kenya

Nairobi, where your safari begins

Most East African safaris start in Nairobi — our home. The city is also the only capital with a national park on its doorstep: Nairobi National Park, where rhino, lions and giraffe live against a backdrop of office towers.

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park lies on the city's southern edge, close enough for a morning game drive before an afternoon flight. Black rhino, lions, buffalo, giraffe and plains game roam open grassland with the city skyline behind them.

The Giraffe Centre and the elephant orphanage

At the Giraffe Centre in Langata you can meet endangered Rothschild's giraffe from a raised platform. Nearby, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's elephant nursery cares for orphaned baby elephants; visiting times are limited, so we plan the day around them. The Karen Blixen Museum is a short drive away.

Arrival and departure days

International flights land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and many safari flights to the Maasai Mara leave from Wilson Airport. After a long-haul flight we recommend a night in Nairobi before starting a road safari. Our office is in the city centre at St. Ellis House, Wabera Street, opposite City Hall.

Safaris that include Nairobi

Good to know

Nairobi questions, answered.

Which safaris include Nairobi?

We publish 2 itineraries that include Nairobi, from 9 to 14 days. Each one lists the route, where you stay and the price per person for the complete package.

Should I spend a night in Nairobi before my safari?

After a long-haul flight we recommend it. A night in Nairobi lets you rest before a road safari, and we can collect you from your hotel in the morning.

Which Nairobi airport do safari flights use?

International flights land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Many scheduled safari flights, including those to the Maasai Mara, leave from Wilson Airport.

Can I visit Nairobi National Park on a short stopover?

Yes. The park is on the city's southern edge, so a half-day game drive can fit before an afternoon or evening flight.

Where is your office?

St. Ellis House, 7th Floor, Wabera Street, opposite City Hall, in Nairobi's city centre.

Can you plan a tailor-made trip to Nairobi?

Yes. Our Nairobi team can adjust any published itinerary or design a route around Nairobi for your dates, group and budget. Send an enquiry or message us on WhatsApp at +254 117 151 203.
