Mount Kenya's summit rising above a sea of cloud

Climbing Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is Africa's second-highest mountain. Its technical summits, Batian and Nelion, need rock-climbing skills, but trekkers can reach Point Lenana (4,985 m) on guided routes through forest, moorland and alpine valleys.

Choosing a route

Naro Moru is the fastest route but crosses the boggy moorland and allows little acclimatisation. Sirimon is gentler and drier; descending by Chogoria adds gorges, tarns and some of the mountain's finest scenery.
